Steven Gerrard has decided that Rangers should try to beat Celtic following comments by former Celtic players.
Mikael Lustig, known for wearing a police hat, sporting a thin moustache and winning trophies, recently suggested that failure to stop Celtic securing a tenth successive title would see Gerrard's side go down as "the worst team ever in their history".
Rather than seeing this as a bit of a laugh, Commons told the Daily Mail that "when I saw his comments, I thought: 'I see what you are saying but Steven Gerrard will be pinning that up in the dressing room on the first day of pre-season training for motivation'."
Steven Gerrard, who recently celebrated his second anniversary as a Rangers manager, admits that Lustig's dig has given him a whole new outlook on his role at Ibrox.
Gerrad said: "All this time I figured my job was just to sound a bit more convincing than the guy before me, occasionally beat Celtic, lose to Hearts and Kilmarnock and be applauded for it in the eighth minute.
"That was before I read Kris Commons talking about Mikael Lustig talking about Rangers.
"Wwhen I saw Kris suggesting I would use Mikael's comments as motivation, I decided I would use Mikael's comments as motivation.
"Prior to reading Mikael's comments, my plan for 2020/21 had been the same as my plans for 2018/19 and 2019/20 - start well, inflate expectations with a derby win at the end of December then chuck it before January's over. Now, however, I've been forced into a rethink.
"If only I'd read those comments in 2018 we'd be celebrating two-in-a-row."
