Rangers blast SPFL as club insists league body's 'confrontational' approach forced court hearing

Rangers insist the court ruling stopping the SFA from arbitrating their row with the SPFL as evidence of the struggles of the leadership of the league body.

And they say it highlights the concerns from clubs about the SPFL and Neil Doncaster's governance at Hampden.

The Ibrox club branded the SPFL as ‘antagonistic’ after club chief Douglas Park claimed a court victory on Monday.

That placed an interim interdict on the legal dispute over the league’s sponsorship deal with Cinch.

Rangers insists the SPFL’s rules say they don’t have to promote the £8m contract because of an arrangement with Park’s own dealership.

And Rangers have welcomed the decision from the court as they hit out at the governing body, insisting they haven’t been acting in the best interest of the game in Scotland.

A statement said: "Today's court ruling once again underlines ongoing concerns regarding the corporate governance and leadership of the SPFL.

"These concerns are shared by many of the SPFL’s member clubs. We have complied with the SPFL’s own rules but today’s court hearing was one that could easily have been avoided if those responsible had adopted a more consensual and less confrontational approach.

"The Executive of the SPFL required to carry out effective due diligence before entering into its contract with the new league sponsor. Instead, an inadequate and antagonistic approach appears to have been adopted; one that it is hard to imagine is in the best interests of the SPFL’s member clubs."
