Rangers bid to groundshare with Ayr United for Colts team games is declined

Ayr United have knocked back a proposal from Rangers to host the Ibrox club's Colts team at Somerset Park.

The Gers had approached the Honest Men to discuss a potential groundshare agreement ahead of their entry to next season's Lowland League.

The deal would have involved the Rangers 'B' team playing their 'home' games out of Somerset.

But the Ayrshire Post can reveal that the Championship club will not be pursuing any deal.

Ayr chairman David Smith has confirmed United will not be exploring the potential option.

He told the Post: "It was nice to be asked but given the impact it would have had on our pitch, particularly in the winter months, we decided it was not for us.”

Colts teams from both Rangers and Celtic will compete in the Lowland League following a vote of the set-up's membership earlier this month.
