Rangers B team well beaten by Dundee United in pre-season friendly

A strong Rangers B team have lost 4-1 to Dundee United.

The match took place at the Rangers Training Centre this afternoon, with the home side fielding a strong squad featuring the likes of Calvin Bassey, Jordan Jones and Greg Stewart.

United took an early lead, with Nicky Clark scoring from the penalty spot after six minutes. The 29-year-old spent three seasons with Rangers as they made their way through the lower leagues, scoring 24 goals in 107 appearances.

Rangers levelled after 13 minutes, with Stewart setting up Josh McPake for the equaliser.

It remained that way until the 60th minute, when Calum Butcher put United back in front. Prolific goalscorer Lawrence Shankland doubled his side's advantage three minutes later.

Dillon Powers put the game beyond doubt 10 minutes from time, with 4-1 the final score.

The presence of Jones, Stewart and Bassey means they won't be involved tonight when the Rangers first team take on Motherwell at Ibrox.

It's the first game for Steven Gerrard's men since returning from France, where 2-0 victories over Lyon and Nice saw them lift the Veolia Trophy.
