Rangers avoid sectarian singing charge but face UEFA punishment over pyro

Rangers won't be forced to play their final Europa League game against Young Boys behind closed doors after avoiding a charge for sectarian singing.

Chants were heard during the 2-2 draw with Feyenoord but no charges have been brought against the Ibrox club.

It comes after a section of the stadium was closed twice already this campaign for games against Legia Warsaw and Feyenoord.

The next step would have been a full stadium ban but Steven Gerrard's side will have the full support for the Young Boys clash next week.

However, the club will face punishment for fireworks that were let off in the away end prior to the game.

It means Rangers are likely to be fined when the panel meets to discuss the case on February 27.

Pyro doesn't result in sections of the stadium being closed but if punished, Rangers will be forced to pay a fine similar to those paid by Celtic in recent seasons.

Feyenoord have also been charged with the use of fireworks as well as blocking stairways in their De Kuip stadium.

The Ibrox side take on Young Boys on December 12, four days after the Betfred Cup Final against Celtic, knowing a draw will be enough to take them into the last 32.
