Rangers assistant Gary McAllister reveals the instant verdict he made on club's academy setup

Rangers assistant Gary McAllister insists he knew from day one Rangers were harbouring real quality in their academy.

McAllister arrived alongside Steven Gerrard in May 2018 and since then the club's youth setup has enjoyed several notable successes.

The development squad won last season's Reserve League and there was also victory over Celtic in the Youth Cup Final.

The club's U-17 side made waves overseas back in February, picking up silverware in the prestigious Al Kass Cup in Qatar.

Several youngsters, including the likes of Ross McCrorie, have been also involved at various levels for Scotland.

And McAllister admits it took him no time at all to spot potential.

"That's something that's caught my eye since arriving here, the quality of the youngsters that we have here, and we've got them spread right through all the Scotland set-ups," he told Rangers TV.

"It's good because we keep in touch with Malky (Mackay), (Billy) Starky, Scot Gemmill, and they are pleased with some of the progress our youngsters are making.

"That experience at youth international level must help them to get closer to the Rangers first team."
