Rangers assistant Gary McAllister 'battered in street attack' in Leeds

Rangers assistant Gary McAllister was reportedly battered in a street attack in Leeds just hours after watching Steven Gerrard star for a Liverpool Legends side.

The Ibrox number two was in Leeds on Saturday night when he was set upon as he waited on a taxi with his wife Hayley, according to the Sun .

McAllister, 53, is said to have been punched in the face by a thug and left requiring 10 stitches in his top lip. Haley was also hurt as she tried to pull the attacker off her husband.

A source told the paper: "Gary was in hospital from about 3am to 12 noon. His face is a mess. He must have at least 10-12 stitches in his top lip.

"It was totally unprovoked by just one bloke. He came from nowhere and just hit him simply because Gary is a former footballer.

"It beggars belief. Gary's pretty shaken up by it all. He and Hayley have always tried to keep out of the limelight."

McAllister had spent Saturday afternoon watching Rangers manager Gerrard star for Liverpool in a legends clash with AC Milan at Anfield.

The former Scotland and Leeds United star was taken to Leeds General Infirmary and is recovering at his home in Tadcaster, West Yorkshire.

McAllister refused to comment but said: "It's in the hands of the police."
