Rangers are very, very poor and Celtic don't need to beat them says former Hoops star

Craig Beattie insists Celtic don't need to beat Rangers on Sunday to win the league.

The former Hoops striker reckons his old club have the league wrapped up no matter what because Steven Gerrard's side aren't capable of going on a run where they will pick up enough points.

Rangers were level with Celtic going into the winter break, although the Hoops had a game in hand, but now sit 10 points behind ahead of Sunday's clash.

The Ibrox side have dropped points in their last two games to fall away in the title race and look unlikely to mount a title challenge.

And Beattie believes they don't have what it takes to go on a consistent run anyway.

He told Sky Sports: “If you don’t lose I think the title is in the bag, I don’t think Rangers can pick up anywhere near the points to challenge - little mind go and win the league.

“So as long as Celtic don’t lose this match on the 31st then I think the tile will be comfortably coming back to Celtic Park.

“Rangers’ recent form has been very, very poor and what they need to do is start winning games.

“I don’t think they’ve won more than three league games back-to-back.

“You’re coming up to the split and you’re going to playing the top half of the league consecutively and that’s going to be even harder, but what Rangers and Steven Gerrard need to do is first is put some good performances together and try and get some back-to-back wins.”
