Rangers are 'enormous' says Celtic fan Sir Rod Stewart after Jamie O'Hara comments

Sir Rod Stewart has come to the defence of Rangers.

Despite being a Celtic fan, the singer took issue with Billericay Town boss Jamie O'Hara's suggestion on talkSPORT that Bournemouth are a "higher profile football team" than Rangers and "they (Rangers) are a huge football club but it’s a bigger job to potentially be the Bournemouth manager."

Rangers legend Ally McCoist called the comments "stupid", but O'Hara insisted: "I'm sticking by it, I'm sticking by it."

Sir Rod, however, called talkSPORT to set O'Hara straight.

He said: “I just wanted to add my two bob to this Bournemouth and Rangers thing. I’m a Celtic fan, you know that.

“Rangers are an enormous team. You go anywhere in the world you will find a Glasgow Rangers fan club. Not so with Bournemouth. Outside of England no one has heard of them.

“In that respect, Rangers is a huge club. (Steven) Gerrard, if I were him, I would not leave until he’d won a trophy, otherwise he will be considered a flop up here.

“I think this is the best Rangers team there has been for a while and they are going to give us a serious challenge. Whether they have (Alfredo) Morelos, or not, they are up for it."

Rangers are currently in Germany as they prepare for their Europa League second leg against Bayer Leverkusen.
