Rangers are being discriminated against by compliance officer who ignores Celtic every time - Hotline

The fallout from the SFA’s decision to charge Jon Flanagan for his elbow into the face of Celtic skipper Scott Brown had aggrieved Rangers fans crying foul.

Many callers believe it’s double standards by the compliance officer as they want Hoops defender Jozo Simunovic joining his Ibrox counterpart in the dock for an off-the-ball clash with Jermaine Defoe.

James Robertson, Pollok, said: “It would appear the compliance officer makes her list up of what has to be reviewed after watching the Sportscene highlights on a Sunday night.

“She takes the opinions of Sportscene’s compliance officers Michael Stewart and Steven Thompson.”

David Runham, Southampton, said: “Once again only the Rangers player is hauled over the coals, whilst the Celtic player gets off scot free. How much more will it take for the Premiership's bosses to wake up and realise that Peter Lawwell is controlling the SFA?”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: "I agree the disciplinary record at Rangers has been poor this season, but other teams have been guilty of the same offences, especially Celtic, yet it's swept under the carpet time and time again.

"Simunovic was equally guilty of an elbow to the face on Sunday, the fact that it seems to be Rangers players face punishment and Celtic players don't, indicates discrimination against Rangers.

"If it was a one-off incident that Celtic got away with I wouldn't feel the need to say this, unfortunately Celtic escape punishment all the time."

Stuart McLean, Stepps, said: “Once again we have the Old Firm match being refereed after the event. Flanagan has been cited whilst Simunovic faces no action. The smell of corruption is polluting the whole of Scottish football.

“This is the same office that could not see Brown's clear stamp on a St Mirren player just the other month. Clear vision when certain teams are in front of the board and the Stevie Wonder approach when others are involved. No wonder people are turning their back on the game.”

Andy Adams, Kirkcaldy, said: “We all know, after numerous TV replays, that Flanagan poleaxed Brown, the ref obviously saw it but deemed it a yellow card, that should be the end of it. if there's any more to be done about it, they should ban the referee for two games, after all he's made the wrong call.

“When the final whistle is blown, that's what it should mean, final as as we need to move on, after all, we keep getting told it was a meaningless game.”

David Yates, emailed: “Why has Flanagan been charged when the referee took action or are we now saying referees book players without seeing offences.

"The reason for a compliance officer is to take action for missed offences. What has gone on this season makes the match officials and the SFA look inept. We now allow kicks in the head, tackles from behind, forearm smashes and over the ball tackles. It can’t be allowed to carry on into next season, we need full time officials to take charge."

Lee Rankin , emailed: “Hotline caller John Burke wrote said the sine die rule had been overlooked this season. Well, it's been overlooked for at least 40 odd seasons as I cant even remember when it was last used. It's the compliance officer and panel that need a complete overhaul for consistency and clarity over the decisions they make.”

And finally Tommy Graham, Barrhead, said: “I can smell fear from the Celtic fans with all their comments about Sunday. They remember that ten man Rangers played them off the park at Celtic Park only for a bad pass by James Tavernier allowing them to score the winner. "If that had not happened then Rangers would have banked at least a point and probably all three.”
