Rangers appeal bans after Covid five breach as Ibrox club fight SFA punishment

Rangers will appeal the six-game bans handed out to Bongani Zungu, Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey and youngsters Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear.

The SFA dished out the punishment to the five players after attending a party and breaching Covid rules.

The players are set to miss four games starting on Sunday with the Ibrox side's Scottish Cup clash against Cove Rangers.

But Rangers are hoping to get the length of their bans reduced as they confirmed they will appeal the decision by the governing body.

A message from the Light Blues read: "Determinations being appealed. Appeals Hearing date to be confirmed."

The five were disciplined internally by the club but Zungu and Patterson had been utilised in recent weeks with James Tavernier out injured.

Jordon Jones and Greg Edmundson were given seven-game bans for committing a similar offence earlier on the season.
