Rangers announce Orange County partnership with Ibrox youth stars to earn Stateside chance

Several Rangers youths will get the opportunity to hone their skills in California after the club announces a new partnership with Orange County SC.

The Ibrox club have been looking to boost their global profile, and previously announced a link with Indian side Bengaluru FC.

A new link with Orange County, who play in the United Soccer League, will see the clubs focus on "mutual sponsorship opportunities and digital content projects" both in the US and the UK, as well as players moving between the two clubs.

Announcing the new partnership a statement reads: "Rangers FC can today announce a strategic partnership with Orange County SC of the USL, founded on football, youth development and commercial activities between California and Glasgow.

"The new partnership includes several exciting programs, activities and player movements between the two clubs.

"A number of Rangers professional and academy player swill go on loan for the season to play in the USL for the OCSC first team from January 2020.

"Three professional OCSC youth players were welcomed to the Gers on trial this December, with the USA youth internationals Francis Jacobs, Aaron Cervantes and Diego Lopez playing in academy matches.

"Full-time members of Rangers staff will transfer to Orange County to help develop and deliver the program on all levels."

Rangers also confirmed that plans are afoot to play "a concept friendly football tournament" in Orange County in 2020 and 2021.

There will also be a documentary broadcast next year about the players who have swapped Orange County for Glasgow and vice-versa.

Managing director Stewart Robertson said: "The club’s international strategy is a core-pillar to our growth plans and this relationship gives Rangers a permanent presence in the U.S. and a platform to develop further."
