Rangers and their achievements under Steven Gerrard are seriously impressive but it's been clear for a while this is a side of real standing in Europe.
The Ibrox side have been consistently excellent on the Continent under the Liverpool icon who himself forged a career out of rising to the occasion under the lights.
But make no mistake about it, Scottish teams reaching the latter stages of European tournaments has been anything but commonplace over the past 35 years.
Gerrard and his player can make that happen by reaching the last eight of this season's Europa League if they see off Slavia on Thursday night in the return leg with the tie poised at 1-1.
A quick word for the Rangers side that weren't far away from the first ever Champions League Final in 1992 after reaching the second group stage.
Record Sport has gone through the archives to look at the last five teams who have been involved at the business end of a tournament in Europe.
Rangers (07/08)

Walter Smith's dogs of wars were as tough as any European side in recent memory. Every game they gave up possession but possessed a steely determination that forged their extremely stubborn resistance. Younger Ibrox followers might not recognise the name Brahim Hemdani but this Algerian defensive midfielder was the man who kept the opposition at bay. Rangers defeated Sporting Lisbon 2-0 on aggregate in the last eight before a stunning triumph over Fiorentina to reach the UEFA Cup Final. Zenit and former boss Dick Advocaat broke their hearts in Manchester but it was a season that will live long in the memory for Rangers and their supporters.
Celtic (03/04)

Ask any Hoops supporter who watched this team and they will make a compelling case that this Celtic side the year after Seville was the club's best since the Lisbon Lions. Martin O'Neill barely bought a player of note but a veteran side bristling from being unseated by Rangers won 25 consecutive league games and dumped Barcelona out of the UEFA Cup in the last 16. Unfancied compatriots Villarreal - newcomers to the European stage - were up next in the quarter-finals but it was the Yellow Submarine who would charge on to the final four. The mercurial Juan Riquelme passed Celtic off the park in the first leg before Henrik Larsson grabbed an equaliser. The Swede's missed penalty at Parkhead proved costly, however, as Villarreal secured a well deserved 2-0 win on home turf in the second leg to advance.
Celtic (02/03)

A thrill ride of a journey that resulted in 80,000 supporters descending on Seville for the UEFA Cup Final against Porto. But Celtic fans already had a feeling this was their season when they faced Liverpool in the last eight. A 1-1 draw at Parkhead had Gerard Houllier's men in confident mood heading into the return at Anfield. Larsson revealed O'Neill produced a team talk for the ages and his players delivered a career-best display as Alan Thompson and John Hartson scored to secure a 2-0 win to leave the Kop silenced. It undoubtedly ranks as the one of the finest European results in Scottish football history.
Hearts (88/89)

The Jambos were a good outfit in the 80s and Alex MacDonald's side narrowly missed out on a place in semi-finals of the UEFA Cup back in 1989. A 1-0 first leg victory thanks to Iain Ferguson had the Jambos believing before a second leg reverse earned Bayern Munich a 2-0 win. Hearts were rank outsiders and were available at a 66/1 to win it even with only eight teams remaining. It wasn't to be but the thrilling aggregate win over Austria Vienna is still fondly remembered down Gorgie way.
Dundee United (86/87)

Jim McLean's genius is unquestioned and Dundee United supporters know how good he is. He never let the European Cup semi final defeat to Roma define him and produced another United side with real intentions of continental glory two seasons later.
Barcelona were defeated home and away in the last eight as the Arabs partied in Catalonia after a storied 2-1 win in the Nou Camp. Hadjuk Split were then disposed with before a narrow 2-1 aggregate defeat to Gothenberg in the Final.
