Rangers and SPFL stand-off latest as cinch crisis talks fail to provide resolution

Scottish football’s £8million car wars looks set to rumble over into next week after a day of crisis talks at Hampden failed to deliver an end to the bitter feud between Rangers and the SPFL.

Record Sport revealed this week league bosses had called an emergency board meeting to discuss the simmering stand-off which threatens to write off a flagship sponsorship deal with online traders cinch less than two weeks into a five-year agreement.

Those crisis talks took place yesterday morning with Gers managing director Stewart Robertson involved in his capacity as a director of the governing body.

Rangers chairman Douglas Park is owner of one of the country’s biggest second-hand car businesses and his club has refused to display any cinch branding, claiming SPFL chairman Neil Doncaster was warned they’d do so over a potential breach of their contractual commitments.

SPFL bosses have requested proof to back up Rangers’ claim of a conflict of interest and it had been hoped a resolution could be worked out ahead of this weekend’s schedule of top flight fixtures.

English-based firm cinch remain ready to pull the plug on the deal unless the situation is resolved.

Yesterday’s talks ended without any agreement. Unless a compromise is reached next week, cinch could choose to terminate their contract.
