Rangers and Motherwell hero to be laid to rest on Friday

Rangers and Motherwell hero Tam Forsyth's funeral will take place at South Lanarkshire Crematorium on Friday.

Mourners are invited to pay their last respects as the cortege is led through his home town of Stonehouse at 10.30am on the day.

The defender, who was affectionately nicknamed 'Jaws', passed away on Friday, August 14, aged 71.

Forsyth was signed by Motherwell boss Bobby Hewitt in 1967 and was at Fir Park for five years before moving to Rangers in 1972.

During his 10-year spell at Ibrox Tom won three league titles, four Scottish Cups and two League Cups under iconic managers Jock Wallace and John Greig.

Forsyth won 22 Scotland caps and would go on to become Motherwell assistant manager under Tommy McLean, and had a spell in the dug-out himself at Dunfermline in 1982.

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows, who paid a touching tribute to Tom, says the club intends to hold a minute's silence ahead of Saturday's derby match against Hamilton at Fir Park. They will also mark the recent passing of 'Ancell Babes', Pat Quinn and Willie Hunter.
