Rangers and Liverpool set to miss out on youngster heading to Manchester City

Manchester City look set to sign Kilmarnock youngster Liam Smith.

The Rugby Park youth, who has yet to play for the first-team, will head to the Etihad later this season should a deal be signed.

Both Rangers and Liverpool were interested in the youngster, but Manchester appears to be his preferred destination.

Killie had hoped to get Smith signed up on a deal to ensure they got a decent transfer fee for him, but it looks set to be no more than a training development fee they will bag.

Smith scored the winner for Scotland Under-16s in March as they defeated Malta.

He looks set to follow a similar path that Billy Gilmour did after leaving Rangers to head to Chelsea, he has since been involved in Frank Lampard's first-team.
