Rangers and Hibs punished by the SFA after furious touchline flashpoint

Rangers and Hibs have been hit with SFA charges after a furious touchline bust-up in December's meeting between the two sides.

The two clubs, and Ibrox technical director Tom Culshaw and Hibs assistant John Potter, were cited with a notice of complaint after both technical areas were involved in a heated exchange after Ryan Porteous was sent off for his high challenge on Borna Barisic.

And after the footage was reviewed, the governing body has decided to punish both parties.

Light Blues coach Culshaw will serve a one-match ban and will be in the stands for the Scottish Cup clash against Hamilton, with a further one match suspended.

Culshaw was charged with misconduct under rule 203 but Potter and Hibs escaped with a censure with the Edinburgh club also hit with a suspended £1500 fine by an independent panel.

Steven Gerrard admitted after the incident neither side would be too proud of their behaviour when watching it back.

Jack Ross insisted there was no bad blood between the clubs and it was just down to the heat of the moment.

He said: “It’s just like anything that happens on the pitch, when I played I always viewed it that when the game was done it was done.

“I take pride in how we conduct ourselves and I think we let ourselves down a little bit and we spoke about it. It’s not as if it’s a consistent problem for us, it happens in the heat of games.”

Rangers and Hibs squared off on Wednesday night in a rematch at Ibrox as the Light Blues came back from a goal down to seal the victory.

George Edmundson cancelled out Paul Hanlon's opener before new boy Ianis Hagi scored his first Rangers goal to help Gerrard's men keep pace with rivals Celtic as they beat Motherwell 4-0.
