Rangers and Celtic tipped for Europa League success as bookies slash odds on knockout stage progress

Odds have been slashed on Rangers and Celtic to make it through the group stage of the Europa League as punters pile bets on the Glasgow giants.

Scotland's representatives each kick off their campaigns on Thursday with Celtic starting off against Real Betis in Seville.

They've landed a tough group with Betis, Bayer Leverkusen and Ferencvaros and were initially 9/2 outsiders to progress.

But BoyleSports have Ange Postecoglou 's team down at 7/2 after a late surge.

It's even more optimistic as Rangers are concerned. They'll face Lyon in one of Thursday's 8pm kick-offs and were initially 5/2 to progress.

But they are now down to 15/8 and firm second favourites in Group A, ahead of Brondby and Sparta Prague.

Leicester and Napoli are 12/1 favourites to win the competition but fans wanting a punt on Rangers are being offered 50/1.

Celtic, meanwhile, come in at 66/1.

Lawrence Lyons, a spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It’s a wide open Europa League market this year with Napoli and Leicester very easy to back at 12/1 despite kicking off the tournament as joint favourites.

"We’re noticing plenty of optimism in Glasgow that Celtic and Rangers will feature in the latter stages, with Rangers in particular now close 15/8 second favourites from 5/2 to top their group.”
