Rangers and Celtic set for Colts final showdown as Glenn Middleton sends Glasgow Cup reminder against Clyde

Celtic and Rangers Colts sides will contest the 2019-20 City of Glasgow Cup Final next month after the Ibrox club saw off Clyde on Tuesday night.

The Light Blues emerged 2-0 winners at Broadwood with two terrific goals from winger Glenn Middleton.

His first-half strike put his side in a promising position as they required only a draw to take second spot in the five team league before a sensational free-kick made sure of the result.

As second-placed finishers, Rangers will meet their cross-city rivals back at Broadwood in the New Year when the prestigious competition finally comes to a close, with Celtic finishing top of the section that also includes Partick Thistle and Queen's Park.

Middleton was sent on two separate loan spells by first-team boss Steven Gerrard last season, at Hibs and Bradford City.

He failed to shine at Easter Road before his spell in Yorkshire was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic as he made just three appearances.

Middleton did feature as a substitute in Rangers' 4-0 Betfred Cup win at Falkirk last month but his display against the Cumbernauld side could serve as a reminder that the former Norwich kid, still only 20, has plenty to offer yet.
