Rangers and Celtic receive Betfred Cup Final all clear as SPFL insist 'pitch is in great condition'

Rangers and Celtic have received Betfred Cup Final boost after the SPFL revealed no pre-match pitch inspection is planned despite a night of torrential weather.

There were concerns over the showpiece fixture after Glasgow was battered overnight by heavy wind and rain but the governing body say the "pitch is in great condition".

The downpour is set to continue throughout Sunday, but the SPFL have made the decision not to run the rule over the state of the playing surface at the national stadium.

Scotland's 6-0 win over San Marino was played during wild weather in October with the pitch saturated for much of the 90 minutes but the game was completed.

Today's fixture between the storied rivals is being billed as the biggest game of the season with supporters travelling the length and breadth of the country to attend the Final.

Celtic are aiming to make it 10 consecutive domestic trophies while Rangers are desperate to lift their first piece of silverware under Steven Gerrard.

The SPFL wrote on Twitter: "Good morning from Hampden!

"The pitch is in great condition for the Betfred Cup final despite the overnight rain. No inspection required. Enjoy your day if you are coming along!"
