UEFA have finalised their plans to shake up the Champions League format, according to a report.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims European football's governing body hope to introduce the new format from 2024.
It will consist of 36 teams - an increase from the current 32 - in a single league table, with every side playing 10 matches before the first knockout round instead of the current six.
All 55 member federations will get a first glance at the proposals on Tuesday and it's expected there should be no problems approving the new format at UEFA 's executive committee meeting in April.
But there will be no cast-iron guarantee of entry for certain clubs as was initially thought, besides the previous winners of the Champions League.
The remaining 35 spots will be down to individual leagues to decide.
If Celtic and Rangers can keep up their progress in overhauling Scotland's co-efficient there is a chance both sides could play in the revamped format at the same time when it comes into play.
Two Champions League spots are available for next season onwards while the Ibrox club could make progress towards earning the country an automatic spot in the group stage with their Europa League performances, continuing this month against Royal Antwerp.
