Rangers and Celtic have offered up a £50,000 cash injection to the Lowland League for their Colt teams to enter the fifth tier, according to reports.
The Lowland League confirmed the Old Firm have had productive discussions regarding their involvement for the 2021/22 campaign.
And now the Scottish Daily Mail are reporting the clubs have offered £25,000 each to be shared among the 17 Lowland League clubs.
Earlier in the season, it was reported Rangers and Celtic were willing to put up £3m to enter the SPFL but the majority of lower leagues club remain against their participation.
The Lowland League could now offer an attractive alternative, which would see the best youngsters from Ibrox and Celtic Park facing teams packed with experienced players that will help their development.
In a statement on the proposals, Lowland chairman George Fraser said: "Having been on the PGB sub group tasked with further developing the well-publicised ‘Scottish Football Innovation’ paper, a project which is still on-going and may well be implemented for season 22/23, it was absolutely clear to me that there is a major gap in the player pathway which would, if not addressed, impact a generation of our best young talent.
"That is why the Lowland League, as a modern progressive organisation, have identified an opportunity, and are open to embracing positive change which will have massive benefit for our own clubs and league but importantly also for the wider Scottish game."
