Rangers and Celtic fans given vaccine status warning as Scottish Government debate groundbreaking Covid rule change

Nicola Sturgeon has announced the Scottish parliament will debate a groundbreaking Covid rule change that could have a huge impact on football fans.

The First Minister was addressing the country as Covid cases and hospitalisations continue to surge to deeply concerning levels.

No further restrictions are currently planned but case levels in Scotland are now 80% higher than they were last week and it's beginning to have a serious impact on the NHS.

Sturgeon urged businesses to do their bit in stemming the tide and announced a bill that will be debated in parliament that will vaccine certification mandatory at certain sporting events.

That includes "any outdoor event with 4,000+ spectators" and "any event with more than 10,000 spectators.

It means that fans attending any Rangers or Celtic home match would have to provide proof of both jabs, or risk being turned away.

The same applies to most clubs in the Scottish Premiership - though some with crowds of 4,000 or fewer may be exempt.

It was announced that the Government will begin sending out vaccine QR codes to those who have had both jabs from this Friday.
