Rangers and Celtic double on Chris Erskine's radar as East Kilbride target more success over B team

Chris Erskine scored a stunning strike to shock Rangers B on Saturday and now he’s targeting an Old Firm double with Celtic B visiting K-Park next week.

The East Kilbride star pulled off a delightful lob last weekend to earn 10-man Kilby a 2-1 victory at home to the young Ibrox side and help the club climb to fourth in the Lowland League.

A trip to Broomhill this Saturday is followed by the visit of the young Hoops on Tuesday night and Erskine is determined to extend Kilby’s 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

EK needed a last-gasp Craig Malcolm equaliser to hold the Hoops in their first meeting back in July and Erskine reckons they will pose a very similar test to the one they overcame from Rangers.

The 34-year-old said: “We are on a really good run. That’s seven games in a row we’ve won now and we don’t want that to stop.

“We ‘d played Rangers already this season and lost so we knew it was going to be a hard game.

”It would be nice to do an Old Firm double in between the Broomhill game on Saturday, which will be really tough also.

”Celtic were very good when we played them the last time as well. I think both colt teams are very similar.

"You can tell how much they are coached.

“They almost play with a bit of freedom. They all want to get on the ball and they are all good technical players.

“Celtic pose a similar challenge to what we faced from Rangers.

“When you play these teams you are almost giving up possession to them. Letting them have the ball in the areas where you don’t want them to hurt you.

“Like we did on Saturday, we’ll need to try and take our chances when they come.”

Reflecting on his goal, Erskine said memories of an effort he scored for former club Partick Thistle almost a decade ago came flooding back when he lifted the ball over Gers keeper Jay Hogarth.

”I actually scored a very similar goal to that when I was at Thistle,” Erskine recalled.

”It was against Falkirk at Firhill many moons ago now. I think it was back in our league winning year in 2012 so it was a while back.

”I thought about it right away when I scored.

”I felt going down to 10 men actually helped us. We just seemed to dig in a bit more.

”I thought Rangers were the better team throughout the game.

”But we got the goals on the break and it was a good win.”
