Rangers and Celtic discover their Champions League opponents

Premiership champions Rangers and runners up Celtic have found out who they will face and who they could possibly face in the next round of Champions League Qualifiers.

The Gers will take on Malmo or HJK Helsinki in the third round qualifier of the Champions League.

This will be Steven Gerrard's side opener in the competition as they enter at this round.

They were drawn out of the pot second and face a trip to Sweden or Finland for the first leg on August 3-4 and the return leg at Ibrox on 10 August.

Malmo will host Helsinki, the former club of Gers striker Alfredo Morelos, in the first leg of the second qualifying round on Wednesday.

Ange Postecoglou's Celtic meet Midtjylland in the second round on Tuesday and will go to Denmark for the second leg on July 28.

If the Celts progress they face a tough task, coming up against either PSV Eindhoven or Galatasaray in the third round.

Rangers have reached the last 16 of the Europa League for the past two seasons while Celtic fell out at the group stages of last season's competition.

Scotland's last representative at the group stages of the Champions League was back in the 2017-18 season with Brendan Rodgers Celtic side.

Rangers last qualified for the CL group stages in 2010-11 under Walter Smith.
