Rangers and Celtic charged by SFA as Steven Gerrard and Scott Brown face bans

The SFA have come down hard on Celtic and Rangers following last weekend's explosive derby.

The two clubs have been charged by the governing body while Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard and Hoops skipper Scott Brown have also been cited.

The bitter rivals have been rapped for failing to control their players and staff, Gerrard faces a one-match ban for comments made to referee Bobby Madden while Brown faces a hearing over "not acting in the best interest of Scottish football".

The Daily Record reports that the Rangers boss made the remarks to Madden after the full-time whistle.

Brown was placed under the SFA microscope for celebrating in front of the Rangers fans after his side's victory and he was then involved in a bust-up with an angry Andy Halliday.

Rangers winger Ryan Kent has also been offered a two-match ban for lashing out at Brown towards the end of Celtic's 2-1 win.

The Ibrox club have appealed and the on-loan Liverpool winger's fate will be decided at a Hampden hearing later on Thursday.

Gerrard insists Rangers "have their own version of events" over the incident.

He said: "We have our version of events on Ryan Kent, we have challenged it and we will wait and see.

Oran Kearney admits Celtic firework yob nearly forced him to take St Mirren players off the pitch

"We don't think it was in the face and the photo makes it look worse than it was

”Ryan was just pushing him away to get him out of his face after being provoked."

Alfredo Morelos received his fifth red card of the season, also for striking Brown, during the bad-tempered clash.
