Rangers and Celtic 'B' teams admitted into Lowland League

Rangers and Celtic's 'B' will play in the Lowland League next season after a decisive vote last night.

A majority of clubs from the fifth tier of Scottish football voted in favour of admitting both sides into an expanded league next season.

It's now almost certain that the controversial plans will go ahead next season but on the basis that Rangers and Celtic's 'B' teams will only be admitted entry for the 2021/22 season.

The decision was ratified by member clubs at a meeting last night and all Lowland League clubs engaged in discussions with representatives from Rangers and Celtic before the indicative vote.

League chairperson, George Fraser, said: “The member clubs have voted in favour of this proposal that was put to them earlier this month.

“Whilst it wasn’t unanimous the majority of member clubs are in favour of it and ultimately the members made the decision, which is only right in a democracy.

“Our Board will now get to work on moving forward with plans to get the new season started on July 17.”
