Rangers and Aberdeen discover potential Europa League opponents ahead of 3rd qualifying round draw

Rangers are on collision course for a blistering 'Battle of Britain' with Wolves in the Europa League 3rd qualifying round.

The Ibrox side and Aberdeen both go into the hat for Monday's draw in Nyon unseeded.

And that means there's some seriously difficult opposition lying in wait - as has been confirmed by UEFA with the release of their groups for the draw.

The Premiership duo, of course, have still to overcome their second round opposition with Rangers preparing for a rematch with Progres Niederkorn just two years after suffering their most humiliating European result ever.

Aberdeen head into the unknown against Georgian side Chikhura Sachkhere desperate to take another step towards the group stage.

Before those ties get underway, however, both clubs will be involved in the third qualifying round draw on Monday.

And Rangers have been lumped in Group 3 along with potential opponents that has Premier League moneybags Wolves as the top seeds - should they overcome Crusaders in the second round.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side finished seventh in the Premier League last season to secure a European slot for the first time in almost 40 years.

Other clubs Steven Gerrard's side could face should they make the third qualifying round include Polish giants Legia Warsaw who face Finnish side KuPS Kuopio in the second round, MIkael Lustig's new side KAA Gent, FC Viitorul of Romania, Danish club FC Midtjylland and the winners of the AZ Alkmaar vs BK Hacken second round tie.

Aberdeen are included among the non-seeds in Group 4 for Monday's draw.

That means they could face a potential clash with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven or Swiss side FC Basel - depending on which side drops out of Champions League qualifying at the QR2 stage.

Other clubs potentially in Aberdeen's path include Croatians Rijeka - whom the Dons stunned 5-2 on aggregate in this competition four years ago.

The winners of the second round tie between Kilmarnock's slayers Connah's Quay Nomads and Partizan Belgrade are also in Aberdeen's path.

As are Bundesliga giants Eintracht Frankfurt who take on Estonians FC Flora Talinn in the second round and either AS Jeunesse Esch of Luxembourg or Vitoria of Portugal.

The draw for the third qualifying round of the Europa League will take place on Monday, July 22, at 2pm - that's 1pm for those of us back home in Britain.
