Rangers' Alfredo Morelos handed 'lazy' verdict by pundit for his part in Liam Scales' Aberdeen goal

Neil McCann has branded Alfredo Morelos 'lazy' in his assessment of Aberdeen's opener in their victory over Rangers at Pittodrie.

Barry Robson's men grabbed a seventh Premiership win in a row as they moved five points clear of Hearts once again in the race for third as the league enters the split. The Jambos picked up a thumping win over Ross County to reduce the gap to two but Liam Scales and Bojan Miovski netted in the second half in the Granite City to send the Red Army wild.

It was a first defeat for Michael Beale against opposition outside of Celtic since his Ibrox arrival with his side now trailing Ange Postecoglou and his table toppers by 13 points. The Hoops are now in pole position to wrap up the league on matchday one of the top six. Analysing Scales' opener at Pittodrie, McCann highlighted the Dons press while taking aim at the Colombian for 'waiting' on James Tavernier's ball from defence.

McCann told Sportscene: "Jonny Hayes makes it difficult for [James] Tavernier. [Liam] Scales knows [Alfredo] Morelos isn't going to run him in the channels so he can afford to be really aggressive and go and press him.

"Morelos should be holding that up, it's lazy from him, waiting on it. Scales it right on top of him and sometimes you deserve a wee bit of luck because he took the chance there.

"He read the game and pass, he took the opportunity to go and bite on it. He tried to put a ball into the box and gets it wrong, but gets it so right. Sometimes it goes like that when things are on top."

Aberdeen and Rangers are now expected to learn their top six fiture schedule later today with the SPFL set to confirm the running order for the top and bottom half of the league for the final run-in.
