Rangers' Alfredo Morelos grudge claim made by Craig Levein as ex-Hearts boss issues red card verdict

Craig Levein believes Alfredo Morelos is a player who "holds a grudge" as the former Hearts boss gave his verdict on the Colombian striker's latest disciplinary storm.

The 24-year-old appeared to deliberately clatter Dundee United defender Mark Connolly in the face with his forearm in Rangers' 2-1 win at Tannadice on Sunday.

Referee Steven McLean saw the incident as a yellow card offence, but Morelos may still face further action at the hands of the SFA's compliance officer.

Levein told BBC Sportsound that opponents had wised up to Morelos' petulant antics and knew how to wind him up during games.

The former Dundee United boss noted how Conolly had "left a few" on the forward in the opening stages of the game, adding the striker knew exactly what he was doing when he smashed the Irish centre half.

Morelos has been red carded seven times since arriving at Rangers from HJK Helsinki in 2017.

And Levein said teams had worked out it was "not difficult" to get under his skin.

"After one of them, in particular, I actually saw him [Morelos] take a wee note of who it was had challenged him," he said.

"If you want to upset Morelos, it's not that difficult.

"All you need to do is, early in the match, leave something on him. He seems to bear grudges and want to equal the score as quickly as possible.

"That happened just before he threw a forearm.

"I do [think it was a red card offence]."
