Rangers Alfredo Morelos 'dive' yellow card rescinded as Steven Gerrard accepts one-match ban

Rangers have successfully appealed the yellow card shown to Alfredo Morelos for simulation in the midweek 1-0 win over Livingston and accepted the one-match ban offered to manager Steven Gerrard for his furious reaction as the Ibrox side fired yet another broadside at the SFA disciplinary process.

The Colombian appeared to have been felled by Lions' stopper Max Stryjek as he bore down on goal in the area but referee John Beaton booked the striker for diving prompting an apoplectic response from Gerrard, who charged onto the pitch at the Tony Macaroni stadium to confront the official at half-time.

He received a red card for his protests, forcing him to watch the rest of the victory from the stands and was offered a one-match ban in response, though the Gers claimed in a statement he "immediately apologised" to the referee for his x-rated outburst.

They added Gerrard had received no apology in response for Beaton's error, but have accepted the charge levied against the Ibrox boss.

However, the club added concerns over a slew of disciplinary and refereeing incidents had been made "clear" to SFA referee chief Crawford Allan.

A statement read: "No one will be surprised that Alfredo Morelos’ yellow card has been rescinded and we are pleased to have won this appeal.

"We can confirm that we have accepted the one match suspension offered to our Manager.

"Rangers Manager, Steven Gerrard commented, 'After the game, I immediately apologised for my part in the incident at half time in our game v Livingston.

'I reiterate that apology and accept a one game suspension. As a club, we were extremely disappointed in the attitude displayed by the referee.

'We expect to have the ability for managers and officials to have discussion, but frustratingly, the referee was not forthcoming. This has also been noted by other managers in recent weeks.

'After my apology post match, I expected the referee to call to apologise for his part in the incident but I didn’t hear from him.

"Ross Wilson had a long, frank and honest discussion with Crawford Allan today. Be in no doubt that our concerns have been made very clear and we are pleased that they were received openly by Crawford.”
