The Texas Rangers acquired right-handed pitcher Adrian Sampson off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.
Sampson was transferred from the Mariners' 60-day disabled list to the Rangers' 60-day DL.
Sampson, 25, made his major league debut this season but had season-ending surgery to repair a flexor tendon in his right elbow on June 30. He's expected to be in an injury rehabilitation program for the start of the 2017 season, the Rangers said in a release.
He allowed four earned runs in 42/3 innings on June 18 at Boston, his lone outing before the injury.
Sampson had Tommy John surgery during his senior year of high school before being drafted in the 5th round of the 2012 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was traded to the Mariners at the deadline on July 31, 2015 in a move involving J.A. Happ. Sampson had a 4.01 ERA over 105 minor leagues games the past five seasons. He was 7-4 with a 3.25 ERA in 13 starts for Triple A Tacoma in 2016 before joining the Mariners. He was ranked the Pirates' 15th best prospect in 2014 by Baseball America.
