Rangers accept Alfredo Morelos violent conduct charge as forward given two-match ban

Alfredo Morelos has been banned for two games after Rangers accepted a charge of violent conduct against the forward for an elbow on Dundee United defender Mark Connolly.

The 24-year-old was booked by referee Steven McLean in the aftermath of the incident in Sunday's 2-1 win at Tannadice, but was handed a notice of complaint by the SFA's compliance officer on Tuesday.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard initially defended his player over the incident, saying it only warranted a caution.

But Morelos has now admitted the charge meaning he will miss the Betfred Cup clash with St Mirren on Wednesday and Saturday league meeting with Motherwell.

A fast-track disciplinary hearing initially resulted in a tribunal set for Thursday by the SFA compliance officer.

However, Rangers have avoided any further ramifications - such as a longer ban - by simply accepting the charge, meaning he will be able to return in time for the December 23 trip to St Johnstone.

Morelos has not scored in the Scottish Premiership since finding the net in September's 2-2 draw with Hibs at Easter Road.

Speaking after Sunday's match, Gerrard said: "I didn't see an elbow.

"If you look at him again, there's no elbow there. The referee saw it and dealt with it.

"It was a foul and a yellow card and it's been dealt with. But if you look at it again, next time I see you you'll say it wasn't an elbow."
