Rangers 2 Aberdeen 1 (AET) as Kemar Roofe secures Hampden return vs Celtic - 3 things we learned

Rangers will face Celtic in an Old Firm League Cup Final after an extra-time victory over Aberdeen.

Michael Beale maintains his unbeaten run as Light Blues boss after a 1-1 draw in original time and will now head back to Hampden next month bidding to win his first trophy in an Old Firm derby showdown with Ange Postecoglou and his competition holders.

The Dons took the lead in a moment Borna Barisic will want to forget as his slack defensive moment allowed Matty Kennedy to race down the line before he picked out Bojan Miovski to fire beyond Allan McGregor. Former Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack levelled for the Ibrox side via a heavily deflected low effort to level things up in the 90 with Anthony Stewart shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Fashion Sakala. Scott Wright was brought on at the start of extra-time and he made an instant impact setting up Kemar Roofe in the additional 30. Here's three things we learned from Hampden.

Raise the Roofe

Micheal Beale spoke pre-match about the 'big hole' in his Rangers team he has left for Kemar Roofe.

And boy did the attacker repay that big praise from his manager.

The striker was brought on with 17 minutes left of normal time and he stroked home in the additional 30 to send the Light Blues support wild and earn a return to the national stadium.

A big moment for what the new Rangers boss envisages as a big player for his Ibrox era.

Forced off near end after an awkward landing. He will be praying it is nothing too serious.

Mor to give

Alfredo Morelos should have went into this one flying after pre-match comments from Anthony Stewart.

The Rangers hitman hasn't looked at full fitness at all under Michael Beale and was once again guilty of a big miss.

His play throughout was very slack. A lot of loose balls at key moments in the build-up.

He was on hand to lay-off Ryan Jack for his leveller but overall can offer so much more.

Out of contract in the summer with his future unclear.

Play to the whistle

Borna Barisic was guilty of a key error as Aberdeen opened the scoring.

The Rangers full-back stopped for what he thought was offside on Bojan Miovski.

But Matty Kennedy ran from deep to get the yards on the left-back before crossing for his team-mate to superbly finish.

A real lesson in playing to the whistle at Hampden.
