Rangers' 12 year Hampden quirk as Sunday slot continues against Hibs

Rangers' long wait for a Saturday semi final at Hampden goes on as they get ready for a Sunday showdown with Hibs in the Premier Sports Cup in November.

The Ibrox side will take on Jack Ross' in-form team for the chance to face Celtic or St Johnstone in the Final, and will do so in a familiar position.

Rangers' upcoming clash will be their 10th since they last received a Saturday slot in the final four of both Scottish football's domestic tournaments.

Their win over St Johnstone in the League Cup semi of 2009/10 season but that was when it was still a midweek fixture.

Rangers did land a Scottish Cup semi final against Dundee United on a Saturday during the 2013/14 season but that game was on home turf as Hampden was being renovated for the Commonwealth Games.

But it's been over 12 years since the Ibrox faithful were allotted the Saturday fixture slot in the semis in Mount Florida and it will be the same story when they take on Hibs.

Ibrox punters would likely prefer a Saturday game but Steven Gerrard might not be too downbeat with the fixture coming fresh off the final international break of the calendar year.

List of Hampden semis in League and Scottish Cup since facing St Mirren in 2009
