Rangers 1 Kilmarnock 0 as Ryan Jack wonder strike sends Ayrshire side home empty-handed

A Ryan Jack wonder strike was enough to seal three points for Rangers against Kilmarnock.

Tommy Wright’s men headed to Ibrox on the back of an encouraging performance despite losing to Motherwell midweek.

But Jack’s strike leaves the Ayrshire men with seven defeats in a row and they’re now just a point above Hamilton in the Premiership table after they demolished the Steelmen 4-1.

Greg Kiltie had a good chance in the 10th minute when he turned to shoot but his effort was blocked out for a corner which led to nothing for the visitors.

Rangers had the ball in the net after 17 minutes but captain James Tavernier strayed offside and it was disallowed.

In the 28th minute, Ianis Hagi smashed a free-kick which looked sure to be going in but it went narrowly wide of Colin Doyle’s post.

Ten minutes later, however, Jack fired the hosts into the lead with a stunning strike from distance.

Ryan Kent had a chance three minutes later when he burst into the box but it was well saved by Doyle.

Four minutes into the second half, Hagi smashed a low shot towards goal but Doyle got down well to tip it wide.

Just after the hour mark, Killie changed shape, going more direct when Gary Dicker made way for Chris Burke.

Rangers fizzed an effort across the goalmouth in the 81st minute but no one could get on the end of it as it was cleared by Killie.

Joe Aribo found himself through on goal in the 85th minute but Doyle got the better of him one-on-one to tip it out for a corner as one goal proved to be enough for Steven Gerrard's title chasers.
