Rangers 0 Manchester United 4 as Peter Lovenkrands' Light Blues learn tough lesson

Rangers were outclassed by Manchester United in an under 21 friendly clash to open the Super Cup NI in Coleraine.

Andrew Dallas led the line as Peter Lovenkrands fielded an extremely young Light Blues side - missing a number of players due to the development teams friendly against Mansfield Town at Auchenhowie this afternoon.

Recent signing from Manchester City , Kane Ritchie-Hoslar started alongside Dallas with highly-rated Kai Kennedy out wide.

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill was an interested spectator as the sides got the match underway in front of a big crowd.

And it took just seven minutes for United to get their noses in front when Northern Irishman Ethan Galbraith collected the ball 25 yards out, cut inside and curled a delightful right-foot shot into the top corner.

Four minutes later and it was 2-0 as Arnau Puigmal slotted home from close range following a low cross from Anthony Elanga.

Rangers were shellshocked but managed to regain some composure as the half wore on, without seriously testing United keeper Matej Kovar.

Kai Kennedy thought he had an opening midway through the half but was denied by a last-gasp tackle from Brandon Williams.

Rangers keeper Kieran Wright was called upon to make two excellent saves from Largie Ramazani to keep the score at 2-0 at the break.

But he was powerless to stop Anthony Elanga's glancing header making it 3-0 after 50 minutes.

And Williams made it four on the hour mark when he was quickest to react after Ramazani has cracked the crossbar, cutting back for Di’Shon Bernard to net.

Dallas drew a save from Kovar and Ben Williamson curled an effort just wide of the post as Rangers looked to cut the deficit.

Dallas then blew a great chance for a consolation when he fired into the side-netting from an angle.

Rangers last actions of the match were to introduce Northern Irish youngsters Ross McCausland and Lewis MacKinnon for Dallas and Adam Devine - something that brought a huge cheer from the local crowd.

But there was to be no consolation for the young Gers as they finished on the wrong end of a 4-0 beating.
