Range Rover crashes into lamp post and bursts into flames

A Range Rover crashed into a lamp post and burst into flames near Sefton Park.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) received a call at 2.14pm on Thursday, December 22, following reports of a car fire on Hartington Road, at the junction with Ullet Road. Two fire engines attended the scene and found a Range Rover had crashed into a lamp post and caught fire.

Pictures and video from the scene showed flames coming from the bonnet and inside of the car as firefighters dragged a hose reel jet across the road. As firefighters started putting out the flames, a huge plume of white smoke took over Ullet Road, with traffic stopping on either side.

The driver of the Range Rover was out when crews arrived and is believed to be uninjured, MFRS said. Fire crews left the scene at 3.01pm.

Merseyside Police were also called to the scene and stayed with the vehicle until it was recovered from the scene just before 4pm.

A spokesperson said: "We were called out to a road traffic collision at the junction of Ullet Road/Croxteth Road at around 2.15pm earlier today (22 December). It was reported that a Range Rover had collided with a lamp-post and the vehicle had subsequently caught fire.

"Merseyside Fire and Rescue were called and the fire was extinguished. There were no reported injuries."
