Rangaswamy hails BCCI decision to increase pension of ex-cricketers

MUMBAI: Former India captain Shantha Rangaswamy has hailed the BCCI’s decision on Monday to double the pension of former cricketers, men and women, and former umpires.

“On behalf of the Indian Cricketers Association, and all the former cricketers, I would like to thank Mr Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI, for taking care of all the former cricketers by increasing their pension. This will certainly help many former cricketers struggling due to inflation, to make ends meet in life. More importantly, I would like to congratulate Mr Jay Shah, whose single-handed effort has resulted in a fantastic achievement in the IPL e-auction bid,” Rangaswamy, who played 16 Tests and 19 WODIs, and is presently the ICA representative in the BCCI Apex Council, told TOI.

"I’m pleased to announce an increase in the monthly pension of former cricketers (men & women) and match officials. Around 900 personnel will avail of this benefit and close to 75% of personnel will be beneficiaries of a 100% raise,” Shah tweeted.

In a BCCI release, Board president Sourav Ganguly, said: “It is extremely important that the financial well-being of our former cricketers is taken care of. The players remain the lifeline and as a Board, it is our duty to be by their side once their playing days are over. The umpires have been unsung heroes and the BCCI truly values their contribution.”
