There’s no debate that Randy Moss is one of the greatest receivers to ever play an NFL game.
His 2007 season with the New England Patriots was unprecedented and simply extraordinary. Moss set the single-season record for touchdowns with 23, beating out Jerry Rice’s record of 22 that was etched in 1987. Tom Brady broke the single-season record that year with 50 touchdown passes thrown and New England’s offense went down in the history books.
The only other quarterbacks to throw for 50 touchdowns in a season are Peyton Manning (55) and Patrick Mahomes (50). Two of those quarterbacks are solidified Hall of Famers and Mahomes is treading down the same path. Mahomes just signed a half-a-billion dollar extension with the Kansas City Chiefs that keeps him around for 12 seasons.
Mahomes, 23, has already earned a Super Bowl MVP and NFL MVP award, with so many accomplishments ahead of him. Because of this — Moss decided to on record and claim he would’ve caught 30 touchdown passes in a single season from the Chiefs’ quarterback.
“In my prime with Patrick Mahomes, being able to buy time? I’m saying 30,” Moss said on ESPN’s “Get Up!”. “I’m saying 30 touchdowns to set the mark and really set it at a high level, and I’m not joking by saying that.”
It’s not farfetched and is a real possibility, but it’s hard to think he could beat what he’s already accomplished with Brady in his prime.
