Random NFC West thoughts for each team heading into training camp

The same old storylines are boring. Who cares that player X went on a new diet and came into camp in shape? It’s a boring trope. It’s also boring when we have to hear the same things over and over again about a holdout. This offseason has been slow. Well, let’s make it fun. Here are some random thoughts about each team in the NFC West.

Todd Gurley should be locked in bubble wrap and not see the field

Toddy Gurley is good at football when he is healthy. No matter what the Rams or Gurley say, he was not healthy toward the end of last season. If the Rams learned anything, they should have figured out that their very expensive running back can get worn down during the season. He’s just not as durable as other big-name backs. One team used to have a star player who wasn’t exactly durable. That team sat Rob Gronkowski for the entire preseason. They made sure that one of their star players was ready when the games matter. The Rams should think about doing the same for Gurley.

Is anyone going to talk about the fact that Kyle Shanahan is 10-22?

Yes, Shanahan has been extremely unlucky. He had no quarterback his first year, and then Jimmy Garropolo tore his ACL very early last season. The problem is that eventually, you are what your record says you are. This means that Shanahan needs to win and he needs to win now. The Niners defense must improve. The Niners offense must use the mind-blowing scheme Shanahan provides and do something with it. San Francisco is in a difficult division. It kind of feels like 8-8 won’t cut it.

Russell Wilson, star on and off the field

Russell Wilson is trying so hard to be a brand. He always speaks in these public relations scripts that it’s starting to get annoying. It’s like he’s following some script to be a star off the field. He wants to be the best-known quarterback in the game. The problem is that he’s extremely boring. He somehow made Ciara boring. It all feels unauthentic and people hate that.

The Cardinals know they have to play defense, right?

Kliff Kingsbury can put up points. That was never his problem as the coach of Texas Tech. The problem was that his defense couldn’t stop anyone. Games were always a shootout. They were fun, but that didn’t translate to wins. It seems like the offense is all anyone is focusing on when it comes to the Cardinals. Count me in on the Kyler Murray bandwagon. I believe David Johnson will have a bounce-back year. The Cardinals slot receivers will put up huge numbers when it comes to PPR leagues. The defense is . . . well, does anyone really know at this point? That’s a problem.
