Random AFC West thoughts before the start of NFL training camp

This post won’t talk about the best storylines. It won’t talk about the overplayed storyline either — which means no Odell Beckham Jr., you’re very welcome — and it won’t hit on things that happen every year — we don’t need to hear about Tom Brady defying father time. It’s just some random thoughts that may or may not have any effect on the NFL at all. Just some things to think about. Let’s start with the AFC West.

The Chargers and the injury bug

The Los Angeles Chargers have to be one of the unluckiest teams of all time when it comes to injuries during training camp. It just seems like every year they lose multiple key players to injuries before the preseason even starts. The Chargers are predicted to be major contenders this year. Let’s hope they can avoid a major injury. At least Melvin Gordon can’t get injured if he holds out.

The Chiefs are going to be fast, huh?

I just want to see them race. It’s a good thing that Patrick Mahomes can throw the ball over mountains and out of stadiums because he can just chuck it and hope someone runs underneath it during seven-on-sevens this camp.

Oakland Raiders Everything

Yes, I mean everything. The Raiders leaving Oakland after this year and having their camp in Napa that’s also being filmed by Hard Knocks. Jon Gruden wanting to bring football back to the 90s. Richie Incognito, Antonio Brown, Vontaze Burfict, and Derek Carr doing whatever they are going to do. Carr is definitely the one of these things is not like the others of that group, but I want to see how he meshes with the madness.

Denver Broncos defense v. Denver Broncos offense

Will the Broncos be able to move the ball in camp at all against what is probably going to be a dominant defense. Vic Fangio knows how to coach the defensive side of the football and he’s done it extremely well for a long time. There is a ton of raw talent. Von Miller and Bradley Chubb will be nightmares when they go up against the Broncos offensive line. This is going to be one of those situations where the Denver coaches will just have to move the football to create different scenarios for the offense to try and succeed. The offense won’t move the football for 10 straight plays but will somehow have three first downs because the coaches just reset the chains and move the ball down the field. Joe Flacco should have a good time with that.
