Randall Cobb’s new deal with Cowboys worth $5M over 1 year

The deal former Green Bay Packers receiver Randall Cobb signed with the Dallas Cowboys will pay him $5 million over one year, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Cobb will help the Cowboys replace slot receiver Cole Beasley, who signed a four-year, $29 million deal with the Buffalo Bills during the first week of free agency.

The deal is Cobb’s third since joining the NFL in 2011 and his first outside of Green Bay. He previously signed a four-year rookie deal and a four-year, $40 million deal after a Pro Bowl season in 2014.

The Packers will move on at slot receiver after eight seasons with Cobb manning the slot position. He quickly became one of the NFL’s most dynamic slot receivers and developed instant chemistry with Aaron Rodgers, but injuries and general wear and tear sapped him of his production and playmaking ability over the last four years.

It’s unclear if the Packers were actively involved or even interested in bringing Cobb back for the 2019 season. As the 2018 season wore on, Cobb seemed resigned to the fact he’d be leaving the Packers after the year. Although the offense doesn’t have a sure-fire slot receiver on the roster, it was probably time for Cobb and the Packers to part ways.

The Packers have now lost Cobb and Jordy Nelson in back-to-back offseasons.
