Randall Cobb holds a title no other player in NFL history can claim

The Green Bay Packers appear to be going through a minor rebuild, while still hoping to compete for a title while Aaron Rodgers still has stuff left in the tank.

The team traded safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix during the season, fired coach Mike McCarthy and hired a guy with only year of experience as an offensive coordinator in Matt LaFleur.

Now, two veterans for the Packers have departed in free agency. Linebacker Clay Matthews is returning to SoCal to play for the Los Angeles Rams, while wide receiver Randall Cobb chose to sign a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

Cobb’s breakout season came in 2014 when he totaled 91 receptions for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. It’s the only 1,000-yard season of Cobb’s career.

So, while Cobb unfortunately never captured a ring with the Packers, he does leave the team still holding a distinction that no other player in NFL history can claim.

When Cobb took the field in the Packers’ season opener in 2011, he became the first player born in the 1990s to play an NFL game.

Cobb was born August 22, 1990, so had just turned 21. The Packers played the opener that year as Super Bowl champs, meaning Cobb had just missed out on a championship.

Going to the Cowboys may give him a better chance of getting one than if he’d stayed with the Packers. Strange to think…
