Randall Cobb hasn’t discussed new contract with Packers

Soon-to-be free agent receiver Randall Cobb says he has “no idea” what is going to happen with his future, but he confirmed he hasn’t had any new contract discussions with the Green Bay Packers.

Cobb talked about his upcoming free agency status with Dave Schroeder of WBAY-TV in Green Bay while at the Super Bowl this past weekend:

“No, never really any talks until March, so we’ll see what happens,” Cobb said when asked if his agent and the Packers have had any contract talks.

Cobb’s four-year contract signed before the 2015 season is about to expire. He had another disappointing season in 2018, catching 38 passes for 383 yards and two touchdowns while missing eight games due to hamstring and head injuries.

Once a dynamic slot receiver, Cobb’s career has been derailed by never-ending injuries.

Now, his future with the Packers – his team the first eight seasons of his NFL career – is unclear.

“I have no idea. I’m taking it day by day and looking forward to the future,” Cobb said.

The Packers may be comfortable letting Cobb get to free agency and let the market determine his value without contract negotiations beforehand. Cobb is  28 and bruised and battered from eight long seasons, with declining production and injury red flags lessening his value away from Green Bay.

In 2015, the Packers waited until just days before the start of free agency to re-sign Cobb to a four-year deal.

It’s possible the Packers will attempt to bring him back if the price is right in March, but it’s looking more and more likely that Cobb will be playing elsewhere in 2019.
