Ranchi: SSP seeks more time to respond to home secretary’s notice

RANCHI: Ranchi SSP Surindra Kumar Jha has sought more time from the home department to reply to its showcause notice issued for putting up posters of those who were allegedly associated with causing violence in Ranchi on June 10 at the city’s main squares.

On Wednesday night, the principal secretary (home, prison and disaster management), Rajiv Arun Ekka, issued a show-cause notice to the SSP, seeking an explanation as to why their photographs were pasted. The secretary had given two days’ time to the SSP for submitting his reply.

The SSP has cited his engagement with handling the law and order situation in Ranchi as the reason behind seeking more time. “I have sought a few more days to file the reply,” he said.

Meanwhile, the inquiry committee, formed by chief minister Hemant Soren to look into the circumstances leading to the violence and police firing on June 10, is apparently racing against time to submit its report. The CM had formed the committee, which consists of additional director general (operations) Sanjay Lathkar and secretary (disaster management department) Amitabh Kaushal, on Saturday and asked it to submit its report within a week. “We are still working on the report. I cannot confirm now whether it will be submitted on Saturday or not,” Kaushal said.

Sources said that the committee is focusing on examining the witnesses, videos, photos, social media messages and documents.
