The Prime Minister’s brother Prahlad Modi on Thursday met the parents of a 12-year-old student of a private residential school who was allegedly killed by his senior for having an affair with his sister, saying he will request for a CBI probe.

The PM’s brother met the deceased’s parents at their ancestral house in Chanda Ghasi village and assured them that justice will be done.

“We cannot change what happened but the culprits will be punished according to law,” he told them at their village Chanda Ghasi.

The deceased, Vinay Kumar Mahato, a Class 7 student of Sapphire International School on the outskirts of Ranchi, was found bleeding on the front porch the teacher’s hostel at 1.30 am on February 5, by arts teacher Durbanand Jana. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased’s Hindi teacher Nazia Hussain and her husband Arif Ansari, a math teacher at Taurian residential school in the city, were arrested after interrogation on Tuesday.

Police detained the couple’s son, a Class 11 student of school for allegedly murdering Mahato.

Police said the deceased used to like the couple’s daughter and had been dating her for the past couple of months, but this did not go down well with her 17-year-old brother.

“I will request the PM to order a CBI probe into the case,” Prahlad Modi told media persons after meeting Mahato’s parents.

“A law is needed to keep a watch on schools where such incident takes place. Teachers having scandalous background must be dismissed,” he said.

The deceased’s mother, Kashila Devi, rubbished the police claim that her son was killed over his friendship with a girl.

“A 12-year-old boy cannot fall in love. The police claim is false, “she said.

“We want a CBI inquiry and the visit of the PM’s brother, has raised our hopes.”

Members of the Jharkhand National Commission for Protection of Child Rights also met the family and recorded their statement.

“This is a very serious issue and the commission has sought for a report on it. We are also conducting inquiries at our level. We will recommend for a CBI probe in the case,” said Manoj Kumar, a member of the commission.
