RANCHI: Over 10,000 members of the Jharkhand Pradesh Anganwadi Workers’ Union, Ranchi, on Wednesday protested in front of Raj Bhavan, demanding immediate payment of their salary pending for the past eight months. They warned of hunger strike if issues were not resolved by July 15.
Jayavanti Nath from Khunti said, “The chief minister had assured us in 2019 that the honorarium of an Anganwadi ‘sevika’ would be increased to Rs 13,000, while that of a ‘sahayika’ would be hiked to Rs 8,000.per month. But the promises were never kept.”
Kanchan Mala Jha from Gumla said, “Our Rs 6,400 salary takes a lot of time to be deposited into bank accounts.”
Another protestor, Ranjita Devi, said, “We not only want a revision of our salary, but also timely payment of the honorarium.”
