Ramvir Singh Bidhuri urges Delhi govt to put excise policy on hold

NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has urged the Delhi government to stop the implementation of the new excise policy for the time being. People across the city are opposing the policy, he claimed.

“The government should review the policy in consultation with all sections of people concerned and only after that it should decide whether to implement it or not. Liquor shops have been allowed to open only for revenue purposes. Liquor outlets are being opened around religious places, schools, and hospitals, due to which there is a lot of anger among the people. The order of the Delhi government giving permission to open liquor shops in non-conforming areas should also be withdrawn immediately as it is completely against the rules,” said Bidhuri. “New liquor stores are being opened in villages, residential areas and unauthorised colonies as well,” he alleged. He urged chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to call an all-party meeting to discuss the matter.
