Ramside Hall Hotel upgraded to five-star food hygiene after re-inspection

A County Durham hotel previously given a one star food hygiene rating has seen its rating upgraded to five stars.

Health inspectors have given Durham’s Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa a five star hygiene rating.

The award-winning four star hotel immediately carried out all the remedial work required after an inspection in January led to them receiving a one star.

Inspectors also highlighted improvement was necessary to the cleanliness and condition of the facilities at Ramside Hall.

Officers found that major improvement was required for its management of food safety.

Meanwhile its hygienic food handling was deemed to be generally satisfactory.

Inspectors from Durham County Council have now confirmed that, following a re-inspection, the high standards at Ramside has led to a rating of five stars – the highest rating possible.

The hotel received 100% for its cleanliness and hygiene and 100% score for the physical structure of the premises.

John Adamson, managing director of Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa, said he was delighted to have received the news.

He said: “This is a very challenging time for the hospitality industry and we are very glad that the inspector knows we took his comments very seriously and immediately carried out all the necessary work.

“A five star rating reflects the standards that we have in place and we hope that this will reassure the public and our corporate clients that Ramside Hall Hotel is very much open for business.”
